Excelsior Ambulance Service provides EMS and specialty transport services for hospitals, health systems, communities, event partners, and EMS professionals across the Southeast. Established in 2011, Excelsior operates across Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and Florida with a focus on high-performance operations, advanced clinical capability, and dependable system support.
 
Our mission is to build an EMS organization that can meet complex transport needs, support healthcare partners during routine and crisis operations, and create a stronger clinical environment for EMTs and paramedics who want more from their work.

Excelsior isn’t built to function like a generic ambulance provider. Our work is centered on advanced EMS and specialty transport for complex patients, system reliability, and clinical excellence. Transportation is more than getting a patient from point A to point B; we look at how each call affects the hospital, the receiving facility, the care team, the field crew, and the broader healthcare system.

Excelsior’s philosophy is simple: if a $1,000 piece of equipment can help save even one life, we believe it belongs in the system. That mindset shapes how we invest, how we train, and how we prepare for the calls that require more.

In an EMS market where many organizations are growing through consolidation, Excelsior has chosen a different position. Rapid growth is not the goal if it comes at the expense of quality or the people doing the work. Our priority is to build the right foundation: trained clinicians, appropriate equipment, strong operations, and a culture that values doing the job correctly.

At Excelsior, we see our advanced equipment as clinical enablement. Equipment can determine what is possible in the field, during transport, and between facilities. A team cannot provide higher-level care without the tools to support that care. That is why Excelsior continues to invest in equipment that supports high-acuity and specialty transports, rural response needs, respiratory support, field capability, and safer transport operations. Excelsior is prepared to support more demanding transport needs that others can’t.

System-Level Solutions for Hospitals and Healthcare Partners

Excelsior provides system-level solutions for hospitals and healthcare partners by helping organizations match the right resource to the right situation. Not every request requires the same level of transport. A lower-acuity movement may be best supported by BLS or SNT. A higher-acuity transfer may require ALS or Critical Care Transportation. A rural respiratory call may need advanced oxygen support. A large event may need on-site EMS coverage to reduce unnecessary 911 activation.

Appropriate resource allocation matters. When advanced units are used for calls that do not require them, healthcare systems lose availability for higher-acuity needs. When a transport is under-resourced, facilities may face delays, escalation, or unnecessary strain. Excelsior’s role is to help bridge that gap through clear coordination, trained teams, and support for multiple levels of care.

This system-level approach also matters during crisis situations. When the Ft. Stewart shooting occurred in Georgia, multiple EMS services responded, but Excelsior was the first to arrive and already had the situation under control before any other service arrived. Hospital staff recognized Excelsior’s ability to manage the situation and turned away the other responding services.

Crisis response does not happen by accident, and Excelsior’s mission is to bring that same standard to healthcare partners across the Southeast before a crisis occurs.

Advancing What EMS Can Do in the Field

Excelsior continues to advance in-field capabilities because the future of EMS requires greater capability before patients arrive at the hospital. Healthcare systems cannot rely only on transport availability. They need EMS partners who can support clinical needs between the scene, the sending facility, and the receiving team.

Excelsior is already the first to market with High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) in rural areas across its service region, while other HFNC-capable providers operate only in metro markets. Rural hospitals and communities often face longer transport distances and fewer immediate specialty resources. HFNC helps support more complex respiratory needs during ground transport when advanced respiratory capability is needed outside a major city.

Excelsior was also one of the first EMS companies in Georgia to receive PLS licensure before COVID-19. That licensure allows paramedics to manage ventilators, and it became especially important during the pandemic.

Our advanced in-field direction also includes IV antibiotics, lab draws in the field, blood products on trucks (currently in development), and POCUS for heart attacks and trauma (also in development). These capabilities reflect a progressive EMS model built around clinical excellence. Excelsior doesn’t wait for advanced capability to become common before moving forward; we’re comfortable being the first to provide better care.

A Mission That Supports EMTs and Paramedics

Excelsior’s mission also applies to the people who work here. EMTs and paramedics deserve more than a job that asks for everything and gives little back. They deserve training, equipment, support, and a workplace that recognizes the skill and responsibility required in EMS.

Training should not be treated as a checkbox requirement, which is why Excelsior invests in ongoing education. Continued learning is built into how we operate. A team that continues to train is better prepared for complex calls, high-acuity transport, crisis response, and changing clinical expectations.

We also believe EMTs and medics should be able to work at the level they are trained and approved to provide. Excelsior allows EMTs to work within their full scope of practice in each state where we operate, whereas many services do not. That creates a stronger experience for providers who want to use their skills fully and continue developing.

Benefits matter, too. Excelsior pays 100% of employee health insurance premiums, and employees who use Excelsior’s service providers can receive covered care with zero out-of-pocket responsibility. Employees who waive health coverage may also receive an opt-out incentive contributed to their 401(k).
